Phantom Used To Herd Elephants In Tanzania

Elephants in Tanzania have been moving from their wildlife parks to nearby farms to catch an easy meal. The local farmers have not been pleased with this intrusion. To help save the elephants, Tarangire Park Rangers have been using DJI Phantom series drones to "push" the elephants away from the farmers, and back towards the safety of they preserve.

“Increasingly we see elephants moving through farms, especially in Tarangire where they can easily leave the park and get a tasty meal,” says Nathan Hahn, a research associate with Resolve. “It’s created a lot of resentment in those communities, and so farmers have been using bows and arrows, poisoned watermelons, even guns, to kill elephants.”
