DJI Phantom 2 Battery Life Review
Posted on January 02 2016
Hailed as easier to control than the Phantom 1, the DJI Phantom 2 is a perpetual favorite among drone enthusiasts. It offers a variety of fantastic features, and is “more than a recreational quadcopter.” Designed for videographers and other professionals needing to shoot videos from the air, the drone is comparatively more affordable than other “professional” quadcopters. So what’s the drone battery like? Let’s find out:
The Phantom 2 offers 20 to 25 minutes of flight time. This is a significant increase over the Phantom 1, which offers 10 to 15 minutes of flight time. Emphasis is on the former in regards to the Phantom 1. When using the Phantom 2, you will get the 20+ minutes of the battery time you want.
This quadcopter comes with four Lithium ion batteries. As with flight time, the Phantom 2’s batteries are dramatically better than the Phantom 1.
The battery is easily removed from the Phantom 2 for charging, which takes about an hour.
Additional Batteries and Advice
Again, as with the Phantom 1, it’s recommended you purchase additional battery packs for using the Phantom 2. And because flight time is already extended, you’ll enjoy much longer flight sessions when you bring extra batteries and a portable charger along. Considering this drone is marketed for professional use, extra batteries are an excellent idea.
In addition to keeping the battery fully-charged, it’s highly recommended you regularly charge the battery in your Wi-Fi range extender, the battery in your mobile device, and your remote control unit. Ensuring all of these items are fully charged or charging is necessary to make certain your drone doesn’t crash or you lose mobile device service.
