Flying Your Drone Near Fires
Posted on August 17 2015
As wildfire season continues in California, we would like to caution you not to fly near fire emergencies or other disaster areas without coordinating with local authorities. Doing so, even at low altitudes, may distract emergency responders or could pose a hazard to manned aircraft involved in the operation.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection maintains an interactive map of current fire disaster areas:
We are very proud when we see our products used to help communities and first responders in disasters and emergencies. DJI technology helped protect fire fighters at a dangerous quarry fire in Connecticut, was used to help rescue victims during flooding in Texas, helped save two boys stranded in rapid waters in Maine, and assisted fire fighters in battling a house fire in Illinois just two weeks ago. Importantly, all of those efforts demonstrating the life-saving potential of our technology were coordinated with the local authorities. If you have your own stories to tell about helping your community, please let us know here.
Thank you and fly safe,
