DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ Review
Posted on January 04 2016
The improved version of the Phantom 2, the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ is an excellent “entry level” drone for those new to such technology. Simple to set up and easy to use, the Phantom 2 Vision+ is also fun to fly! Let’s take a deeper look at its attributes:
Gimbal and Camera
Similar to its predecessor in regard to design, the Phantom 2 Vision+ has virtually the same propellers, body, and frame as the Phantom 2. It differs from the Phantom 2 in regards to its upgrades, as it offers vastly improved gimbal, internal software, and camera. The gimbal and camera come fitted to the quadcopter, with the Gimbal 3 axis featuring a 1080p high definition video camera, and a 14 megapixel clarity on still camera images.
The camera also features FPV (first person view), which allows you to get a “bird’s eye” view of what the camera sees in real time. If looking to stabilize the camera, simply turn off FPV mode.
Attached to the drone, the gimbal comes with four shock absorbers, all custom-designed for optimal vibration absorption and neutralization of the rolling shutter, i.e. “jello” effect. This refers to the image being stretched or expanded disproportionately.
Capable of recording high-definition video, the Phantom 2 Vision+ captures full HD footage in 1080P (30fps), 1080i (60fps) or 720p (60 fps) resolution. Video bitrate is 15 Mbit/s.
Battery and Remote Control
This quadcopter features a lithium-polymer battery found directly behind the flying robot. It features a capacity of 5200mAh and charges in a little over an hour for about 25 minutes of flight time.
Management control is easy thanks to the remote control, which comes with a special holder for a smartphone or tablet. Information transmitted to the mobile device includes remaining battery life, memory card state, flight speed and height, and much more.
